Haeyoung Yoon is a multi-talented keyboard artist holding advanced degrees in both piano and harpsichord performance. She is a native of Seoul, South Korea, where she received her bachelor of music from Seoul National University. In 2003, she moved to the United States for further musical studies, being awarded a master of music in piano performance from Indiana University, where she studied with Shigeo Neriki. She also received a master’s degree of music in harpsichord and a DMA in piano performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, under the tutelage of Ian Hobson (piano) and Charlotte Mattax–Moersch (harpsichord). Having relocated to Canada in 2011, she studied piano pedagogy at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) with Kristina Szutor, working as a teaching assistant and instructor. She won the Concerto Competition and Chamber Competition held by MUN, and performed Chopin Concerto No.1 as a soloist with Memorial University of Newfoundland Chamber Orchestra.
Ms. Yoon made her orchestral debut with the Taegu Philharmonic Orchestra performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 as the first-prize winner in the TBC (Taegu Broadcasting Corporation) competition at age 17. Since then she has won numerous competitions in Korea, including Eumyun, Korea Music Society, and Segye Times, and has performed at prominent venues including Buam Art Hall, Opus Hall, Sejong Center (Chamber Hall), and Seoul Arts Center (Recital Hall).
In the United States, Dr. Yoon appeared in many concerts as a soloist and also as a chamber musician. She was a winner of the 2010 Artist Presentation Society Competition and performed a solo recital in St. Louis. She also won first prize in the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music and was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Ms. Yoon has participated and performed in music festivals and master classes in Canada, Italy, Korea, and USA, working with internationally renowned artists such as Aldo Ciccolini, Anton Kuerti, Marietta Orlov, HaeSun Paik, John Parry, and Jeanne Stark–Iochmans.
